Why are flocculants and coagulants needed in sewage treatment?

Prevention of Fouling: In treatment processes such as membrane filtration and reverse osmosis, fouling caused by the accumulation of suspended solids on the filtration membranes can significantly reduce system efficiency and increase maintenance requirements. Flocculants and coagulants aid in preventing fouling by promoting the removal of these particles before they reach the filtration stage. This helps to prolong the lifespan of filtration membranes and maintain consistent treatment performance over time.
