How to maintain your spa pool?

Although every spa pool is different, they generally require regular treatment and maintenance to keep the water safe, clean and clear, and to ensure that the spa pumps and filters operate effectively. Establishing a regular maintenance routine also makes long-term maintenance easier.

Three Basic Rules for Spa Pool Maintenance

You can think of your spa pool as a small swimming pool, because it requires the same basic care

1.Maintain Good Spa Pool Circulation

Circulating water through the cartridge filter of the spa pool helps keep it free from contamination.

Depending on the model, your spa pool may have an automatic circulation program to ensure that it runs one or two times a day. These circulations make the water cycle for about 15 to 20 minutes (or longer) to ensure that all the water in the tub passes through the filter.

If your spa pool doesn’t have automatic circulation, make sure to turn it on for 15 to 20 minutes twice a day to ensure that your water is refreshed.

Don’t be afraid to let these filters do their job. The more you run the filters, the cleaner spa pool will be.

Professional Tip: Add a absorber ball to the spa pool after use to provide additional cleaning power. The hot water will extract oils, lotions and soaps from your body and clothes, and sometimes your filter can’t completely remove them. However, the fluffy fibers on the tennis ball will absorb them immediately and help keep the water clean.

2.Adhere to a Simple Spa Pool Cleaning Schedule

Cleaning the spa pool is a crucial part of effectively maintaining it. Both indoor and outdoor spa pools are prone to scum formation, but if your spa pool is outdoors, also watch out for leaves, wind-blown debris and the occasional stray small animals. Keep the waterline and seats clean to have a clean spa pool and help prevent potential water problems.

Clean the shell and nozzles of the spa pool with a sponge and some white vinegar every week to keep it tidy. You can also use it to wipe off the scum line by the water.

Make sure to clean the inside of the spa pool as often as possible, and don’t forget to wipe the shell. When you use it, quickly clean the spa pool cover once with a 10% bleach and water solution to prevent mold growth.

Cleaning once a week is essential for spa pool care. However, completely drain the spa pool every three to four months for a thorough cleaning. If you use the spa pool frequently, or if there are a lot of guests using it, or both, you need to clean it more frequently. After all, you wouldn’t fill your home bathtub with water just once a year and expect everyone to reuse the same water over and over again.

Suggestion: Set a timer when filling the spa pool with water after cleaning. It will remind you to check the spa pool and avoid chaos and a large amount of water overflow.

3.Balance the Water Chemistry of Your Spa Pool

Balancing the water in a spa pool is similar to balancing the water in a swimming pool, but it’s a bit more troublesome due to the large difference in size. Before adding anything to the spa pool, you need to get a baseline reading of the water’s chemical composition. After your spa pool is filled with water, test the pH value and total alkalinity of the water.

Following the “Three Cs”, namely circulation, cleaning and chemistry, lays a solid foundation for spa pool care, giving you a more satisfying soaking experience. To further reinforce your spa pool care plan, add an effective and consistent spa pool maintenance plan.
