DCOIT (4,5-Dichloro-2-n-octyl-4-isothiazolin-3-one) is a low-toxicity, highly effective, broad-spectrum fungicide primarily used to control mold.

It is used in paints, particularly marine coatings, decorative wood coatings, and the plastics industry. It is primarily used as a dry-film fungicide in paints, coatings, paper, stains, plastics, wood, footwear, adhesives, metalworking fluids, and printing inks. It is easily incorporated into water-based or solvent-based formulations.

Mechanism of Action:

The bactericidal action of DCOIT is primarily achieved through reactions between its molecular structure and specific components within microbial cells, thereby disrupting the cells’ normal structure and function.

Specifically, it is able to penetrate the cell membrane and cell wall of microorganisms to enter the cell interior. The heterocyclic active moiety in its molecule interacts with intracellular sulfur-containing compounds, such as proteins and enzymes, causing the bonds in these compounds to break. At the same time, DCOIT can bind to DNA, blocking nucleic acid replication and inhibiting microbial reproduction. Additionally, it can induce genetic mutations, leading to abnormal protein synthesis and ultimately causing cell death.

Storage:

Store in a cool, well-ventilated area away from direct sunlight at a temperature below 25°C.

Precautions:

● Store this product in a sealed container in a dry, cool, and well-ventilated area.

● Avoid adding sulfides to this product. Do not allow it to come into contact with reductive metals (such as iron or aluminum) or with oxidizing or reducing substances.

● After use, reseal the container as originally packaged. Keep away from direct sunlight and store in a dark place out of the reach of children.

● During use, strictly follow operating procedures and avoid skin contact. Wear protective clothing, goggles, rubber gloves, and other personal protective equipment. In case of skin contact, immediately wash with plenty of water and soap; in case of eye contact, immediately rinse with plenty of water and a buffered solution.
